WHAT DO WE HAVE: Our vision:
The vision of MCESO is combating poverty in order to improve the living standard of the community especially the most vulnerable community, Economically, Socially and Culturally through empowerment and capacity building.

Our projects:
Since inception MCESO has been undertaking the following activities;
Child Development and Social Support: As a result of poverty, previous civil strife, child abuse, domestic violence and the HIV/AIDS epidemic, family care in Kenya has been placed under severe strain. The results have been catastrophic, with falling standards in the care of and education of children and young adults. Thousands of orphans and other vulnerable children are left with no means to attain a basic education, which in time will lead to further poverty and thus the cycle continues. UPE is credited with pushing primary enrolment figures up from 2.3 million in 1991 to 8.8 million in 2000, but it is not enough to combat all the obstacles to education. The stress of poverty in both rural and urban areas often means that education is not a family?s top priority. Children are forced to choose work over school, or money that once went to education is used to meet basic needs. Secondary education remains cost prohibitive for many families, and for those who can attend secondary school, only 8% are female. Meanwhile the Kenya HIV / AIDS indicator survey that Kenya has more than 2.8 million children who have lost one or both parents, has one of the highest populations of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in the World. This often leaves a child as the head of his or her own household, responsible for answering basic needs and caring for young siblings. For all of these reasons, MCESO is deepening its commitment to education. This is visible in components of many projects, but it is perhaps most manifest through MCESO?s child sponsorship and Social support programme. The students in this programme receive educational support in the form of school fees, uniform and scholastic materials. In some cases they also receive un traditional support, such as food assistance for child-headed family.

Health & HIV / AIDS; The goal of MCESO health programme is to achieve sustainable improvements in health status among vulnerable groups, especially the geographically remote, women of childbearing age, youth and children under five. The Initiative promotes improvements in basic health services while enabling communities to adopt effective health practices. At MCESO we believe that, health is more than health care. While the organization works to strengthen community health systems and services, it also very much promotes initiatives that offer people the knowledge and skills to avoid illness. These measures include educating women and girls and enabling families to adopt appropriate hygiene practices. In addition the organization supports testing and implementation of income-generating strategies that allow households and communities to acquire better nutrition and health status. Increased incomes enable communities to improve nutritional status, particularly that of women and children, and to build and maintain water and sanitation systems.

Sustainable Livelihoods; A high proportion of the people we work with are subsistence farmers with very low incomes. The range of needs that these communities have varies considerably but generally involves some need to generate income to be able to afford the ?luxuries? in life such as clothes, or an education for their children.

MCESO mobilizes local communities to form centre groups, which are best, placed to assist those within the community who are really struggling. To minimize the risk of dependency, we fund projects with low capital costs and high volunteer involvement. Project participants set the goals they want to reach to make the most of the help they receive. Particular attention is given to the needs of women and children; we find that women always share what they learn with their families thus spreading up the pace of change in their community.
This method has helped many communities implement hundreds of micro finance projects. Local people own and implement the projects. Our role is to empower local communities in the fight against poverty. We support only projects that lead people to re organize their strength, take control of their resources and work together to meet their needs.

Agricultural and Environmental Initiatives: Any rural development program must address the issues of land use and environment, as these are the life-blood of the rural communities. MCESO?s unique holistic / empowerment approach builds community awareness and power through its recognition of the importance of land utilization and conservation, as well as the vital role of village women in the application of sustainable development. Agro forestry projects are being initiated, utilizing the available local resources and the current agriculture patterns. Experimental farming is encouraged to demonstrate new cropping alternatives, establishing broader horizons for farmers.
Promotion of organic farming is being initiated on a large scale, based on local cooperation. Organic fertilizers for regional crops and composting initiatives are being promoted on a large scale.
Common farming plots or individual small plots for women to cultivate their own produce are initiated through kitchen gardens initiatives. Local indigenous products and processing are being developed to create avenues to use local resources and generate income for the women and children.

Vocational training skills
Out-of-school youth with nothing to do are understandably getting into trouble and suffering from a profound sense of hopelessness ? no parents, no supervision, no hope, high rates of unwanted pregnancy in seek of survival, nowhere to go and no reason to care. The worst affected are the girl child who are in great risk of being infected with HIV/AIDS as they are sexually exploited by those proposing to cater for their daily life.

Literacy rates are low among this group and have little to build an adult life on in the context of their grief, struggle, hunger and fear. There are almost no adults available to help or support them and this has made many to leave home in search of work in the cities where they are exploited and they end up engaging in risky business like drugs trafficking, prostitution among others. Majority become lost as they are unequipped to find work or deal with the urban environment. We have been supporting the out of school youths attain basic training skills that will help them come out of poverty and dependability.

WHAT DO WE NEED: Hello. We MURERA COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT & SUPPORT ORGANISATION wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity that we are participating in through our partner, Global Giving based in America.
From November 24 - December 21, we are competing to earn a spot on the Global Giving website, and earn up to US $6,000 from Global Giving by being one of the top fundraisers in the Global Open Challenge as a result of the project we have placed on their site appealing for donation from churches, ministries, families, charities, corporations companies as well as foundations allover the world to help us support 800 orphans with clean drinking water from rain harvesting technology
The organization with the greatest number of individual donations will get $3,000, and a separate $3,000 prize will go to the project raising the most money. The second and third place runners up for both achievements will get $2,000 and $1,000 respectively.
This is our opportunity to try the fundraising tools and services that Global Giving offers to organizations like ours. In order to keep our project on Global Giving longer term, and use their website for ongoing fundraising, we need to raise a minimum of US $4,000 from at least 50 unique donors during the Challenge.
You can help us succeed by spreading the word!
o Pass along this email to your friends and family and ask them to tell others and if possible please donate what ever God will have enabled to since this is the only gift you can give to these children who are suffering from cholera and other water borne diseases due to consuming dirty water.

o Any amount of donation as little as 20, 50, 100 dollars or more will have a very great impart on the lives of the marginalized children

o If you are planning to make a donation this year to MURERA COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT & SUPPORT ORGANISATION please do so by viewing our live project page at www.globalgiving.org/4136.

Again our sincere thanks for your support and all you have done for MURERA COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT & SUPPORT ORGANISATION.

Thank you and God bless
Michael.

P.S. Pass this email along to friends and family and request them to help! For the Churches / ministries, please read this appeal to you congregation and request them to help us meet our fundraising goals?..
